Happy New Year 2016

I hope everyone enjoyed ringing in the new year!  We had Nick’s family over and celebrated his dad’s birthday.  Nick made a delicious pot of seafood gumbo, collards, chicken wings, and salted caramel cheesecake! Needless to say, the diet started today!

These are some sweet pictures of Abigail helping with the cheesecake.  She LOVES helping in the kitchen. She would pick it over playing any day.

Here are some pics of the spread we enjoyed.

I hate that I didn’t take a picture of the cheesecake because it was divine!

Andrew and Abigail enjoyed cupcakes the only way kids knowIMG_2445.JPG how!

We then enjoyed fireworks and rang in the new year with a lot of noise and giggles!

I didn’t quite make it to midnight, but I got pretty close!  The diet begins today and so far so good.  The first day is always the easiest!

New Year’s Resolutions 2016

PicMonkey Collage.jpg

It’s that time again!  It’s time to sit down, reflect on the past year, and make resolutions for the upcoming year.  I always make resolutions and sometimes succeed and sometimes fail.  My resolutions tend to be about the same each year, but I have some new ones this year!

1.) Take Care of Myself- This is so hard for women (and men) to justify taking time away from their daily duties to spend time doing something just for them.  I have went years without working out on a regular basis because I have felt guilty.  It sounds so silly to even say that, but it is so true.  This year I really want to find a few times a week to exercise.  I never think there is time, but I will find a way!

2.) Eat Better- This kind of goes along with the other, but it is something I have falling off the wagon with lately.  Nick and I went organic (mainly) and healthy last spring.  We gave it a good 4-5 months and it was so good for us.  He lost about 20 lbs and I lost about 15.  I HATE to say it, but we have both gained back almost all of the weight.  We let old habits take over.  We are both going back into because we felt so much better!   I already bought groceries that are 100% healthy!

3.) Travel- Oh how I love to travel!  I wish we could do it way more often, but I will take what I can get.  We are planning a big family vacation to Disney next fall and we cannot wait.  We also hope to take some small trips as a couple and family during the year.

4.) Read More Books- I recently started to read more and bought several books.  I have always loved to read, but with kids comes no time for such things.  I now have kids that are a little older and who entertain themselves for extended periods of time.  I am hoping to read 1 a month.

5.) Couple Time- Nick and I have always been good about sneaking away for dinner, shopping, or even weekend trips.  It really does refuel our relationship.  I hope this continues into the new year!

6.) Blog- I have blogged since 2007 (CRAZY!) on and off.  It is a love of mine.  I have dreams of making this little blog into something even more than documenting our lives.

So those are my resolutions for 2016!  What resolutions do you have this upcoming year?

December Favorites

The month of December was super busy and completely wonderful!!  As we move on to January and a brand new year, I wanted to reflect on some of my favorites of the month.

Fashion:  I was given a very generous and amazing gift from Nick for Christmas.  I have looked for a purse for years and could just not justify spending the money.  I was so surprised and I am in LOVE with my new bag. I honestly had no idea and it ended up being just my taste!

Another much loved fashion item is everything from my latest Stitch Fix.  I have renewed my love for this company and can’t wait to get my next package in January!

Beauty Favorites: I have found some wonderful new products this month!

Bath and Body Works Lotion in Velvet Sugar was given to me as a Christmas gift from a student and it is a wonderful winter scent.

Too Faced Natural Eyes is the perfect eye shadow palette.  All the shades are very natural, but with a little sparkle.  I love every shade in the palette and I have not used anything since purchasing.

Tarte CC Under Eye Concealer was something I have searched high and low for.  It covers under eye circles like no other!

Cover Girl Ready Set Gorgeous Foundation is an old love.  I ventured off and tried something new and I came right back to this foundation because it is that good.

Planner Favorite:

This has to go to my new Happy Planner!  I am in love with this planner and its simple, but versatile style.  Read all about it here and here!

Book Favorite:

Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff was an amazing book!! It is very different from any book that I have read before.  It is told through messages, IM conversation, surveillance camera feeds, etc.  It is futuristic and will have you turning the page as quick as possible.

House Favorite:

I am still loving our playroom/family room update.  This space has changed so much over the years to meet our needs during the various stages of our lives.  I am loving its comfortable vibe.  We add a super soft rug and removed a coffee table.  We have spent many evenings playing here!

Nick and I also refinished this old dining room table and it is now the favorite spot for creating, painting, and playing with play dough.

What are your favorites for December?

Planner Spread Dec.28-Jan.3

Hello!!  I am back again with another planner spread!  I am still loving my Happy Planner and was very excited to plan out this week.  I am still not sure were I want to place things every week, but I am having fun figuring it out!

I LOVE how I can remove the pages to plan!  It is so much easier to be able to put on washi and write on it without resting my arm on coils.  I always start by adding some colorful washi.  I used this pretty blue, pink, and yellow polka dot washi along the bottom and a thin teal washi to indicate that I am not working this week.

I then check the weather and add the highs, lows, and type of weather for the day.  This helps so much with planning my weekly outfits.

I then add in important dates, birthdays, appointments, etc.  I use stickers and labels to add some interest.

I also add our weekly menu along the bottom and my TPT goals on the left hand side.  This week I added blog post ideas on the bottom as well.

I am enjoying my boring weeks and nothing much to do!  This will all come to an end next week and then the craziness with begin!

Happy Tuesday everyone!

The Happy Planner

So, I have been a planner fan for many years. I have used all sorts of planners.  Erin Condren planners have had my heart for years.  I have bought one for the last 4 years.  I have always been happy with the planner on most things.  I have not been happy with the prince ($50 for a planner!?) and it is not very versatile.  The pages cannot be easily taken out or rearranged.

I was on the hunt for something cheaper, even cuter, and more functional.  I finally found my “happy” planner on the shelves of good ole’ Hobby Lobby!

planner dec. promo.jpg

For around $20, I found exactly what I was looking for!  It is GOLD with easy to put in pages.  There are many cute add-ons!!!

I bought a dashboard to go in the front.  This is a place to hold all of these adorable sticky notes and flags. This is great for on the go planning.

The pages are beautiful and change for each month.

I was easily able to pull out the pages and work on this spread.

I used some cute Christmas washi to decorate and I was on my way!

I use my planner for my daily to-do list, appointments/meetings, kids to-do’s, and our meal plan for the week.

So far, I am loving The Happy Planner! They are half off on their website right now!!

Christmas Eve

Christmas eve.jpgI hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!  We did and are still trying to recover! LOL!  I am going to back track a little to Christmas Eve.  This day is so much fun!  The anticipation of Christmas is almost as good as the morning itself!

We started the evening with making cookies for Santa. We enjoyed a few ourselves, of course!

We then took a bath, put on Christmas Pj’s (Andrew opted for Star Wars) and threw out reindeer food (cereal and sprinkles).

These two are so stinking cute!!

Then we hung out around the tree (thanks daddy for taking the picture!) and watched A Charlie Brown Christmas.

It was a prefect Christmas Eve!

Stitch Fix #5 December

stitch fix dec.2015

I decided to receive another Stitch Fix just in time for December.  This is my 5th box and it was a good one!!  If you are new to Stitch Fix click here to read all about it! I absolutely LOVE Stitch Fix.  I cannot say enough good things about it!  It is super easy, fun, and they just get it right every time!

This month I got a pair of grey skinny jeans, blue and grey blouse, burgundy top, black/white skirt, and silver necklace. It comes with a personalized letter and outfit ideas.  They even suggested to wear them with pieces I received from past fixes.

IMG_2145.JPGJust Black Faye Skinny Jean in Grey- $88.

I requested a colored pair of skinny jeans in a petite size and they fit perfect!! I already requested another color in the same brand for my next fix.  They are really soft and have stretch.

IMG_2143.JPG41Hawthorn Filbert Abstract Striped Henley Blouse- $58

Very cute! This is perfect for work.  I love this type of shirt and it fit perfect!

I paired the shirt with the pants and it this is it below.

Papermoon Bastille Tulip Sleeve Blouse- $38

I LOVE the color of this shirt.  They sent this in petite ( I requested petite when available) and it was perfect. Usually shirts like this fall off my shoulders or the arm holes are too big, but because it was petite, it actually fit!

Bancroft Joolie Hammered Circle Necklace- $34

This necklace is gorgeous and I own nothing similar.

Gilli Kelsey Skirt- $54

This skirt is great quality, soft, and perfect with leggings.  I was not my favorite because I don’t wear skirts often, but I still kept it for special occasions or date nights.

My total, with the buy 5 items discount, was $184.00.  The quality of the clothes makes this price very reasonable.  Everything I have bought in the past has held up wonderfully!

Christmas with Friends

We have a tradition of celebrating Christmas with friends every year and it is always so much fun! We hosted the festivities this year and these two couldn’t have been happier.

And we couldn’t either!

Nick cooked a delicious roast with mashed potatoes, and green beans.  The kids enjoyed chicken fingers and fruit.

I think they were just happy to be together. Abigail and Claire already had their dress up outfits on!

Eddie and Fowler decided to play with puzzles and read books.  These two are the sweetest!

Then it was time for presents! The kids draw names and have one gift to open.  They were all very happy with their surprises!

We always try to fit in some type of craft and this year we made snowflakes.  We taped off snowflakes designs with painter tape and let the kids cover them in paint.  They turned out really cute!

Everyone left full and tired.  It was a successful night!
